SmartVolt™ · Wearable non-contact voltage detectorKnow a line is live before you reach it.

SmartVolt clips onto a helmet, wrist or harness and sounds an alarm when a worker comes within range of a live AC conductor: about 2.5 m from a 66 kV line. Built for linemen, cable crews and maintenance teams who work near energised equipment every day.

How it works

Switch on, test, clip on, get warned.

SmartVolt senses the electric field around a live AC conductor. It needs no contact and no operator action once it is on.

Switch on

Press the red button on top. The three LEDs show battery level, and the green and red LEDs underneath light up to confirm the alarms work.

Test at a socket

Hold it near a live 220 V socket before every shift. It should beep and flash red. That proves it is detecting.

Mount it

Clip it to the helmet, wrist or PPE using the supplied mounts. The green LED blinks every 5 seconds to show it is on watch.

Work. It warns.

Come within range of a live AC field and it beeps with a red LED alert, before you can reach the conductor.

SmartPause™. When a worker deliberately enters a known danger zone, one press silences the alarm. SmartVolt re-arms itself automatically once they move out of the field, and can also be re-armed by hand. No one has to remember to switch it back on.

The range

Three models. One detection engine.

All SmartVolt models detect the same 220 V – 66 kV range at the same distances and share SmartPause™. They differ in power source, runtime, weight and housing finish.

Choosing: pick JSVR-DT for the lightest, longest-running rechargeable unit. Pick an AAA-cell model (Dual Tone or Mono Tone) where charging points are scarce and crews can carry spare cells.

Detection

The higher the voltage, the earlier the warning.

Detection distance by AC voltage

1 kV1.1
6.6 kV1.7
11 kV1.9
33 kV2.2
66 kV2.5

Distances at which the alarm triggers, per the SmartVolt technical data sheets. Treat them as typical values. The actual distance depends on conductor geometry and surroundings.

Warned at a distance, not on contact

A conventional tester must touch the conductor. SmartVolt raises the alarm while there is still room to stop. That distance grows with the voltage of the line.

  • About 0.15 m from a 220 V socket or service cable
  • About 1.9 m from an 11 kV distribution line
  • About 2.5 m from a 66 kV line
  • Audible buzzer and red LED together

An early warning, not a permit to work. Non-contact detection tells a worker that a live field is near. It does not prove a conductor is dead. Keep isolating, testing with an approved contact tester and earthing before any work on a line, exactly as your safety rules require.

Mounting

Worn where the hands and head go first.

A detector only helps if it is on the worker when they reach up. SmartVolt weighs 50–70 g and clips on in seconds.

Where it is used

Built for crews who work beside live conductors

Power distribution linemen

Fault repair, new connections and pole work on LT and HT distribution networks.

Telecom and ISP field crews

Cable laying and repair on poles shared with power lines, where the line above is often live.

Plant and substation maintenance

Electrical maintenance teams carrying out preliminary ‘live or dead’ checks around panels and switchgear.

Construction and infrastructure

Workers, scaffolders and crane crews operating near overhead lines.

Proof from the field

Chosen over the incumbent after a 45‑day trial

“The SmartVolt fundamentally changed how our Electrical Maintenance Engineer teams approach preliminary checks. We no longer had to risk contact or rely on complicated procedures for a simple ‘live or dead’ confirmation.”

FAQ

Common questions

Can't find what you need? Call +91 8340 84 84 84 or write to info@jarshsafety.com.

What voltage does SmartVolt detect?
AC voltage from 220 V up to 66 kV, without contact. The higher the voltage, the earlier it warns: about 0.15 m from a 220 V source and about 2.5 m from a 66 kV line.
Does SmartVolt detect DC?
No. SmartVolt is specified for AC voltage only.
Is SmartVolt a replacement for a contact voltage tester or earthing?
No. It is a wearable early warning that a live field is near. Keep following isolation, contact-testing and earthing procedures before work on any line.
What is the difference between Mono Tone and Dual Tone?
The housing finish. Mono Tone is all grey; Dual Tone has a grey top and a black base. Detection range, distances and alarms are identical.
What does SmartPause™ do?
It lets a worker silence the alarm while deliberately working in a known live zone. The device re-arms automatically once they leave the field, or can be re-armed by pressing the button.
How do I know it is working?
On switch-on, the green and red LEDs underneath light up. In use, the green LED blinks every 5 seconds. Test it near a live 220 V socket before each shift. It should beep and flash red.
Can it be used in the rain?
All three SmartVolt models are rated IP55: protected against dust and against water jets from any direction. Do not submerge them in water.
What temperature range does it work in?
Operating 10 °C to 50 °C; storage −20 °C to 60 °C.
Where can it be worn?
On the helmet, the wrist or the PPE, using the clips and wrist band supplied. Mount it securely so it cannot detach.
Do you supply in bulk and through dealers?
Yes. For volume pricing, utility and contractor programmes, or to become a SmartVolt dealer, contact our team.
